Vape Tech: Innovations That Are Changing the Game

Explore the latest vape tech innovations transforming the industry. Discover how technology enhances your vaping experience.

Vaping as we know it would not exist if it were not for the people who make them investing millions of pounds in research and development. It is technology which makes vaping what it is today – from the battery packs to the airflow systems.

Vape devices began life as simple electronic cigarettes, intended to do nothing more than imitate the experience of smoking to wean smokers away from more harmful cigarettes.

Today, vape devices are capable of operating using less than a single ohm of resistance. They have specialized airflow systems, incredible batteries, and newly created parts shaped to be sleeker, smaller, and ergonomically fit into your hand and lifestyle.

This article explores some of the vape tech innovations currently blowing up the market.

Advancements in Battery Technology

Original vape device prototypes focused on using the energy supplied through batteries to heat e-liquids. While the inventions of the 1930s and 1960s fell foul of the mass production point, in 2003, Hon Lik (a Chinese pharmacist) managed to invent a prototype which didn’t have the same drawback as those early versions did. Why? Because it could use rechargeable batteries, like the technology found in mobile phones.

Even this type of battery technology has evolved over the years. While old mobile phones used copper-based batteries, modern, rechargeable phones and vape devices use lithium-ion batteries. This solved a big problem in vaping. The early vapes had bigger and bigger battery packs so that they could offer enough power to create the necessary clouds of vapour which make vaping so satisfying. The lithium-ion battery allowed more power in a smaller unit… a little like how data storage has gotten smaller.

Even lithium-ion batteries could be improved, however. Those early models circa 1991 would not last for the five hundred recharge minimum we expect from the modern vape device. First, manufacturers focused on increasing the volume of energy each battery could handle – both on the input and the output. Next, manufacturers turned their attention towards the number of recharges each battery had.

Next, faster charging cables and universal Type-C USB connection ports improved batteries further. Better battery safety features and lightning charging ports were the next steps. The modern top of the range vape mod battery operates at around 3000mAh. Your typical disposable vape device battery has a power around 550mAh – and that is far stronger than the one Hon Lik used!

The improvements in battery life and efficiency have led to an improvement in the overall vaping experience. By increasing the length of vape sessions and providing faster charger times with longer lasting charges, you can vape more often for the same price as always.

Temperature Control Adjustments on Vape Devices

Another key area of advancement for vape manufacturers lies in temperature control adjustments on vape devices. To begin with, those original vape devices had no hint at temperature control. They operated using a heat not burn system, which created vapour, contrary to standard cigarettes which heated to burn and therefore produced smoke.

As time passed, however, the need for varying temperature controls became apparent, particularly with regards towards cloud chasing and mod vaping. While the original vapes had no temperature controls at all, modern vapes use temperature controls to prevent dry hits and burnt coils. This gives the vape device user better flavour and vapour quality.

Lower temperature vape devices give bigger clouds of vapour and have better flavour on the exhale. On the other hand, higher temperature vape devices will taste better on the inhale or in the mouth, then produce less vapour. Vaping accessories such as higher or lower resistance coils, sub ohm capable glass tanks, and other parts can be useful to create your perfectly temperate vaping experience.

Just in case you are not the vape building type, here are a few suggestions for vape devices with temperature control features built in:

·         The Vaporesso Armour S Mod – if you want a vaping mod experience then check out the variable battery, variable power output on this device.

·         The GeekVape Aegis Legend 3 Mod Kit has excellent temperature control.

·         The Voopoo Drag series have precision temperature control on a pretty screen.

The Introduction of Smart Vaping Devices

Smart vaping devices came next, further advancing vaping technology to suit user needs. E-cigs might not contain the exact same tech as your smart home, but they can come in high-tech variants with built in computer systems and even WiFi connections.

Smart vape devices can come with Bluetooth connectivity, touchscreen operation, and even replace some of the jobs for which you use your phone. If your vape can connect to the internet, then it can send messages or make phone calls using apps. Although it sounds extreme, smart vape devices come with multiple benefits.

The benefits of smart vape devices include:

·         Connectivity with your other devices

·         Locator apps which can track your vape if you lose it.

·         More accurate control over things like airflow and temperature

·         Touch screen operation.

·         Access to apps and games

·         Phone calls and messaging.

·         Even cameras!

Of course, vape mods will always be the original precision controlled vape devices and will continue to lead the way in this area. Your average vape device is catching up, though. While twenty years ago you could only buy a vape device with one battery, one setting, and only a single button to turn it on and off, the standard vape nowadays is inhale operated, comes with a 2ml tank, and uses advanced technology to get 600-700 puffs from one dose.

These devices integrate smart tech, combining Bluetooth and app integration to improve the vaping experience. They even have data tracking, enabling you to learn about how you vape, as you vape.

E-Liquid Innovations

It is not only the devices which have changed, either. Vape juice has come a long way since those first solutions. Originally there were only very limited flavours, with early models only imitating smoking and therefore producing similar, tobacco-derived flavours. As vaping technology evolved, flavours went from tobacco to fruity, fruity to sweet, and from sweet to everything else.

Vape juice flavours aren’t the only innovation in e-liquids, either. Since the government made the regulation that UK vape tanks could only hold 2ml legally, the vape juice companies had to start making e-liquids which lasted as long as possible in those smaller sized tanks. To this day you can still buy 300 puff disposables with a battery power of around 300mAh. Most people don’t want them, however, when there are higher puff capacity disposables and e-liquids out there.

2025 has seen a rise in popularity for organic vape juice. These have sustainable flavourings, use less chemicals, and are better for the environment. Nicotine shots, no nicotine juices, nicotine salts, and pre-filled pods are all innovations which have helped e-liquids advance.

The discovery of extracting nicotine salts revolutionised the industry. Nic salts replaced freebase nicotine as the preferred nicotine extraction method due to the high concentration it provides.

The future of e-liquids lies in the full customisation of your own flavours. E-liquids which can be totally tailored to your tastebuds are already out there, but you must mix them yourself. The future looks more like a flavour buffet where the consumer can pick which they like and which they don’t.

Vape Tech Innovations Will Continue to Shape the Future of E-Cigarettes

One thing we can be sure of is that the future of vaping technology will shape – or respond to – the ways we vape. With battery technology becoming more powerful, batteries lasting longer and charging faster, and improvements in temperature control, e-liquids, and other smart tech innovations, we can expect a bright future for the vaping landscape.

More importantly, we can expect that the future technology vaping manufacturers do produce will both enhance the vaping experience and go on to benefit other inventions. The same batteries which power vapes can power phones or cars. The same materials used in shock-proof vapes can be used in laptops, tablets, and other devices.

The future technology used in vaping is the future technology used by the whole rest of the world. We are becoming a digital society. Cigarettes are just another facet of the change.
