Detailed, step-by-step guide on effectively using a push-button vape pen, covering everything from initial setup and operation to maintenance.

Are you interested in trying vape pens for the first time? Understanding how to use them is part of the battle. Overcome your fear of the unknown by reading this how to guide to using your new push-button vape pen correctly.

Vaping is easy – it really is. Once you have mastered the art of inhalation without coughing, you can move on to bigger, better, and stronger vape pens. You can upgrade to a refillable vape kit with substantial bulk and power, or you can decide to scale up even further by shopping for vape mods.

Whatever you decide, learning to use a vape pen for the first time will help you break the figurative ice and make vaping a real option for you. Whether as an alternative to smoking or as a brand new vape user – here is what you need to know about using a push button vape pen.

Understanding Your Push-Button Vape Pen

A push-button vape pen is one of the simplest vapes to use. Although not an inhale-to-use, which is the true simplest design. Push button vape pens are usually slender devices with a mouthpiece on one end, a tank at the top, and a battery pack on the bottom. Where the battery pack is, there is a single button. This is how we use the device.

The Vaporesso Xros Pro is a great starter vape pen should you wish to learn. It’s also the model we based this section upon, so you already know the different parts!

Preparing Your Vape Pen

If you wish to use a vape pen, you must first make sure it is ready to use safely. This involves making sure it is fully charged and inspecting the cartridge (tank or pod) to make sure it is leak-free. You will also want to check the mouthpiece of your vape pen before you use it, just to ensure it is free of debris or dirt.

To Charge Your Vape Device

Charging your vape device is easy to do. Your vape kit should come with a small charging cable. Today’s vape kits use a Type C universal charger, which leads to a USB connection point. Your vape kit may or may not include the plug part of the charger. You can connect the wire to your laptop, games console, or USB charging port wall socket.

Your push button vape pen might not charge using a type C to USB cable. There are older fashioned, screw in models which use a specific vape charger. Whichever your vape kit has, stick to the charger which arrives in the box with your device.

Plug or screw your vape kit into the charger using the charging port, either in the centre or on the bottom of your vape device. Look for a removable rubber part.

Do not leave your vape device unattended to charge it. Do not leave it on charge overnight.

To Check for Leaks and Issues

Otherwise, you must inspect your vape device every time you use it to make sure there are no chips, cracks, leaks, or other issues. If you suspect something is faulty with your vape pen, you should speak to either the manufacturer or the retailer. Perform a visual inspection and use your fingers to see if you can feel any oils on the outer tank.

Turning on Your Vape Pen

When learning how to us a vape pen, you will need to learn how to turn it on. While more modern devices might be constantly ‘on’, the more complex the vape pen, the more likely it has different controls.

If you do not need to turn the device on and it is perpetually in standby mode, then try pressing the button. You will notice the sound of airflow moving through the vape pen. You must press the button at the same time as you take a draw of the vapour. This will take a moment to get the hang of but hang in there.

More than likely, you will have to switch your pod kit on to use it. There are two common, industry-standard settings which do this. The first is to press the button five times in quick succession. The second is to press the button three times in quick succession. You can read your manufacturer’s instructions to find out how your device operates.

Once your vape pen is switched on, you should be able to inhale vapour freely. At some point a safety mechanism may kick in and switch your vape off to prevent it from getting too hot.

Your vape pen may have LED lights indicating its level of charge. Blue may be full, green mostly full, orange for running low, and red for almost empty.

Most modern vapes are push-to-inhale, which means you do not need to switch it on. Refer to your manufacturer’s instructions or contact our experts if you have questions.

Using Your Vape Pen

Learning how to use a push-button vape pen takes a little practice but you will quickly become used to it.

The first rule of using your vape device is that you put the vape device to your mouth and inhale while you are pressing in the button. This is the key feature of a push-button vape pen. You may or may not need to turn it on beforehand (see previous section).

The second rule of correctly using a vape device is that we are inhaling the vapour, not swallowing it. Breath down into your lungs.

The third rule of learning how to use a vape device is learning how to manage the length of your puff. Start small, no more than a second, and take a small inhalation, exactly as if you were taking a tiny breath.

If you are a vape device user who was a former smoker, then continue as if it were a cigarette. Hold the vapour in your mouth and then breath it all in. If you are new to vaping, try breathing the vapour straight into your lungs and back out again. Experiment to find out which works best for you. These are known as Mouth to Long and Direct to Lung (MTL and DTL) vaping.

The button operates the connection between the heating element and the vape juice. Try to keep the pen upright. Do not hold the button in continuously as vape devices which do not have a safety mechanism can overheat.

Adjusting the Settings (if applicable)

There are push-button vape devices which use adjustable settings. These settings might include adjustable airflow, different options for coil strengths, and temperature controls. The most common adjustable setting on any vape device is the temperature control.

Adjusting the Wattage

If your vape pen has the ability to adjust the power settings, look to increase the voltage in the LED menu. Take, for example, the screen on the Vaporesso Luxe XR Max. It has variable control options which operate by using the buttons on the panel. With this device, there is a single button which cycles through options on the display screen. Using this system, 1 tap means yes, 3 taps will allow you to adjust the wattage/power, and 4 taps will take you into the main menu.

Adjusting the Temperature

Adjusting the temperature starts with the coil and system you use. If you are a sub ohm vape user, then you want a sub ohm coil to produce cooler clouds of vapour, which have better flavour. If you are an ex-smoker, you want a powerful vape pen which doesn’t use sub ohm technology, so that you can get that hotter throat hit you associate with smoking.

Some older vape devices even have an adjustable wattage on the base, operated by a dial.

After Use Care

When you are not using your vape pen, you should always make sure that it is turned off. That is, of course, if it is not a push-to-operate vape pen which is perpetually in stand-by mode. To turn off your vape pen, make sure you perform the appropriate number of presses. This could be three or five, or another number as outlined by the manufacturer in your vape kit information manual.

You should always try to keep your vape pen standing upright. When you tip it upside down, you run the risk of the vape juice running into the mouthpiece. This will make for an unpleasant experience where the mouthpiece will become gunky.

If the mouthpiece ever does become sticky or gunky, you can remove it and clean it. Place it inside a bowl of hot, soapy water, and leave it to soak for a while. Clean it and dry it with a paper towel. Make sure your device is fully dry before you use it.

You should always avoid getting the battery for your vape device wet. You should not use your product unless it is fully dried out because it is an electrical device and it may malfunction if you do not.

Vape Devices Last Longer With TLC

Learning how to use your vape pen allows you to have greater confidence when you buy your first vape. Maintaining and cleaning your vape kit will help ensure longevity of that product, once you buy it.

You should clean your vape between flavours of vape juice. You can clean both the mouthpiece and the tank. You should also change your vape coil between flavours to avoid muddy flavours of vapour.

Treating your vape kits with a little TLC will make your vaping experience more pleasant, give you the best value for your money, and helps protect the environment through increasing usability. Is it time you treated your vape device to a little TLC?
