Is It OK To Share a Vape Device?

|

With vape use now a normal behaviour in public places, Vape Direct investigated the question on many of our minds… Is it OK to let your friend try your vape device?

Cigarette sharing goes back to earlier times in the UK. People who lived, worked, or were socially close to one another would often split a cigarette to save money. While this practice is antiquated now (except in the poorest areas) it is still a concern for those of us with a touch of germophobia. We would love to share our new vape flavour with our friends but we simply don’t know if it is safe or not. This is especially true of those vaping since the Coronavirus crisis of ’20.

So is it OK to share your vape device and let others try it? Let’s discuss.

E-Cigs are Far Less Harmful than Cigarettes

While the e-cigarette contains roughly 3990 less chemicals than an unlit cigarette, there is still concern that this is not the case. You can rest assured that there are few implications health-wise if you offer your friend a vape to try.

Before You Share a Vape With Friends

One thing you should consider before you let your friend try your vape device is the nicotine level. We don’t suggest giving any non-vaper or non-smoker nicotine. Avoid this if you can. Shortfill bottles have no nicotine unless you add it. You will find these here.

Another consideration to make is that your friends are old enough to buy their own if they want to try it. This option eliminates any cross contamination between both parties. You can shop for disposable vape devices here until the laws change.

Think of vaping as sharing a drink with someone. If you would feel safe to share a bottle of water with them, then you will probably judge in that moment that it is safe to share a vape. We recommend that you do not share a vape unless you have a spare mouthpiece for your device. This would prevent the exchange of bacteria and saliva particles through a shared mouthpiece.

Is It Safe to Share a Vape?

Sharing a vape device is not recommended. It is not that it is always unsafe, but more that there is potential for cross-contamination through the mouthpiece. This means that you might contract any bacteria or illnesses which the other person has when you share your vape.

Although Covid is perhaps the first illness which might spring to mind over a shared vape, it is far from the first of these. You might pass on herpes through a cold sore, or a cold through sharing the same mouthpiece.

On the other hand, if you share a vape device and each use your own mouthpiece then you may share a vape without any cross-contamination.

Can you share a vape with someone who has herpes?

You shouldn’t share your vape with someone who has any type of open sore around their mouth. In fact, you shouldn’t share your vape at all unless you have a second mouthpiece which your friend can use.

Diseases which could transfer to your mouth through sharing a vape device include meningitis, colds, flus, and any other number of respiratory or skin based infections.

What Can I Do If I don’t want To Share My Vape?

Politely tell your friend that you are uncomfortable sharing. If they push the matter, simply say that you are setting a boundary to protect yourself from something you are uncomfortable with. People who break your boundaries are not real friends.

We suggest referring your friend to VapeDirect.com, where they can shop online from a UK based vape store. They will find all the nicotine free vape juices, disposable devices, and other equipment that they need to allow themselves a taster of vaping before they invest a lot of money.
